• Paul Smith 1941-2022 It is with sadness that Paul’s family announces his death on December 19, 2022, at North Bay Regional Health Center. However, the real joy mixed with sadness is felt by Paul’s family as Paul is going to his eternal life with God, our Father. Although Paul’s family is grieving now and will miss him greatly as the weeks and months pass, the family will hold Paul in their hearts and minds.

• SMITS, Lynda (Girard) Lynda Smits passed away with her loving family on December 18, 2022 at the age of 58. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 36 years, Dave, her children Sarah (Derek) Chasrowski and Steven (Taylor) Smits, as well as her grandson Clark Chasrowski. Linda was born and raised in Sturgeon Falls to Andre Gerard and the late Faye Gerard (Brown). She loved her wonderful siblings John (Liz and niece Ashley) and Gerard.

Green, Lloyd passed away at the North Bay Regional Health Center after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the age of 91. Lloyd has asked to be cremated without formal services. He will be laid to rest in the Nipsing Village Cemetery. A celebration of Lloyd’s life will be held at a later date and Lloyd wants everyone to remember that “tomorrow is another day”. Throughout history, Jewish community foundations have always been built with a cemetery, a school, and a synagogue. Temple Israel of Hillside Hollywood is a community service, committed to the vitality of the greater Los Angeles Jewish community.

Special events are held throughout the year to educate community members about Jewish traditions and mourning practices, as well as to provide comfort through memorial programs. Additionally, our genzah provides the community with a place to bury retired Torah scrolls and worn prayer books.

Our Distinguished Resident Guide highlights the countless contributions to the Jewish community, Los Angeles, Israel, and the world by those buried at Hillside Memorial Park.

Established in 1941 by Lazare F. Bernhard and Robert and Harry Groman as B’nai B’rith Memorial Park, the park was renamed just one year later. In 1957, the park was acquired by Temple Israel of Hollywood and has been an integral part of Jewish values and traditions throughout the community. Hillside Memorial Park also serves as the final resting place for those who have helped shape the Los Angeles community, touching and influencing the lives of people across the country and around the world.

Hillside Memorial Park offers dignified tranquility amidst the bustling Los Angeles, known for its beautiful and peaceful surroundings. The Jolson Memorial, designed by Paul R. Williams, has become a popular landmark for travelers on the 405 Freeway. Amidst the beauty of waterfalls, stained glass windows, and bronze reliefs, Hillside features many unique works of art and sculpture by world-renowned artists and architects. Albert Vine’s statue of Akiba, generously donated by Temple Akiba, now adorns the entrance to Hillside’s Courts of the Book shrine.

Hillside Memorial Park prides itself on celebrating the past, present and future, recognizing the rich heritage and special character of our residents. Deeply dedicated to the values of Tikkun Olam, we are proud to provide support for local services and organizations. It is a fascinating collection of stories of courage, intelligence, generosity, endurance, creativity, humor and athleticism. They have changed our world through all endeavors, planned and unplanned, through the arts, philanthropy, medicine, law, sports and business. His legacy is one of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
